The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Ambassador Greg Mbadiwe, on behalf of the institution’s council, has reaffirmed his dedication towards contributing significantly to the institution’s growth and development.
He made this commitment on Friday, during a courtesy visit to Igwe Peter Anugwu, the traditional ruler of Mbaukwu community, Anambra State.
Mbadiwe disclosed that Mbaukwu holds personal significance for him, not only as the host of the university’s pre-science unit, but also due to its deep connection to his family’s history.
He emphasised that the visit underscores the importance the university places on traditional institutions, especially in areas where its campuses and premises are located.
Reflecting on his late father, K. O. Mbadiwe’s strong bond with Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, whom the university is named after, Amb. Mbadiwe spoke fondly of their relationship.
“My father was one of the biggest disciples of Zik,” he disclosed. “Coming to Nnamdi Azikiwe University is especially significant for me because it is the university of my father’s mentor.”
“When I was appointed Pro-Chancellor, His Majesty was the first to send me a congratulatory message, and you have always treated me like a son. This place is my home, and I am proud of my heritage here. I am beyond convinced that I will do everything in my power to bring development to Unizik because of these significant ties.”
The council chairman promised to give his utmost effort to advancing the university, including the pre-science unit in Mbaukwu.
Receiving the entourage with his cabinet members, Igwe Anugwu commended the university council, for deeming it fit to strengthen its relationship with the community.
