A pro-democracy group, under the auspices of “Coalition for a Better Nigeria” those who call for the interim administration or outright cancellation of the February 25 presidential election that resulted in Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) being declared the winner.
Speaking at a solidarity rally on Wednesday in Abuja, Comrade Awa Bamiji, Converner, said the group was working to safeguard the hard-won democracy in Nigeria by ensuring a smooth transfer of power on May 29 so that the mandate “freely given by Nigerians to Tinubu” at the polls was not jeopardized, during a rally of solidarity on Wednesday in Abuja.
He called on Atiku Abubakar, candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his counterpart, Peter Obi, candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the just concluded 2023 Presidential election, to concede defeat and accept the Olive branch already extended to them by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He noted that those calling for cancellation of the Presidential election or interim Government were the real enemies of democracy in Nigeria, insisting that Tinubu’s victory is irreversible.
Bamiji said: “Our members are mostly Pro-Democracy activists in and outside Nigeria for a better Nigeria. We will not leave this Unity Fountain until the President-elect Ahmed Tinubu is inaugurated on May 29.
“We organise this news conference to let people know about efforts being made by the Coalition towards successful inauguration of the new President on May 29.
“This group is saying no to interim government. This is the constituency that produced the President toady and so there is no way we could support cancellation of the February 25 Presidential election or formation of an Interim Government”, he said.
He maintained that Tinubu is a foremost leader in the international community of the civil society and has remained firm in defence of democracy in Nigeria. “Like I said, we are fully prepared for the his inauguration,” he added.
