Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, has charged newly admitted students of the institution to work hard in their academics and shun all forms of deviant acts so that they can earn good grades to graduate from the university.

Ikechebelu who spoke yesterday while delivering the Vice Chancellor’s address during the 2024/ 2025 matriculation ceremony of the university also charged the students to obey the rules by attendance to lectures, payment of the required fees, avoiding the vices of examination misconduct, certificate forgery and cultism.

He said the university provides all the needed facilities for a congenial learning environment but for the student to successfully stay in the university and earn a degree during graduation, the student must meet up with the listed obligations both to the university, their parents and self.

He disclosed that UNIZIK presently has 17 faculties with the various academic programmes most of which have been accredited by the relevant professional bodies like the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), among others.

He said the university is making progress in his short-term vision (Beautify, Light up, Excellent, Safe & Secure, and Digitize UNIZIK” in line with the Blessed UNIZIK Mantra for a happy productive staff and happy progressive students.

“We also have linkages with many world-renowned universities spread across the United States of America, China, Europe and Africa. This is in addition to linkages with local institutions. The essence of these linkages is to facilitate academic programmes development, teaching/research, public service and staff/ student exchange.

“On certificate forgery, students found to have registered with fake certificates are expelled from the university. Cultism on the other hand is anathema in the university. All proven cultists are expelled. Other deviant behaviours such as robbery, rape, etc are not tolerated for these are both misconduct and crimes punishable by expulsion from the university and terms of imprisonment by the state,” the Ag. Vice Chancellor stated.
