A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos has sentenced a man, Okoli Frank Emeka to six months imprisonment for mutilation of Naira notes before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the.
Head, Media and Publicity, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Dele Oyewale said the convict was arraigned on a one-count charge of tampering and matching on the Naira notes by the anti-graft agency.
The charge stated that Emeka on August 18, 2024, at Al-moruf Garden, Isheri Olofin, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos, marched on the Naira notes during a social occasion, and tampered with N2million, issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), by matching on the same at the said occasion.
He pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Oyewale disclosed that the convict was arrested in May 15, 2025 through a surveillance that was carried out.
“He was shown a video of him spraying the money and he made a statement regarding it.”
His extrajudicial statements and video recordings were tendered and admitted in evidence by the court.
Justice Aneke convicted and sentenced Okoli to six months imprisonment, with an option of fine in the sum of N250,000.
