A 30-year-old man, Ridwan Omolewa, on Friday appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly stealing cash and goods worth N8.4 million from three shops.
Omolewa, whose address was not provided, is facing a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, break-in and stealing, to which he, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Iyabo Oladoyin, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with others still at large on January 29 and April 3, 2025, at the Agbokojo area of Ibadan.
Oladoyin said that the defendant broke into the shop of one Mrs Kudirat Oriowo and stole some vehicle spare parts, cables worth N400,000, and N520,000 cash.
She said that the defendant also stole iron and aluminium scraps valued at N7 million, belonging to one Mr Akeem Oriowo.
“The defendant also broke into a shop belonging to Barakat Olatunji and stole consumables valued at N500,000,” the prosecutor further stated.
According to her, the offences contravene Sections 383, 414, and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Magistrate, Mrs T.G. Daudu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till June 16, 2025, for mention.
