The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has shortlisted 72 lawyers for the award of the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) for 2025.

Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Eniola Akanbi, who is also the Secretary of the LPPC, announced this in a public notice dated June 17.

This announcement precedes the final stage of the conferment process, which includes the interview.

The shortlisted candidates are grouped under two categories in accordance with the LPPC guidelines system.

The shortlisted applicants include 37 advocates and 15 professors of law.

Some of the shortlisted advocate applicants are Theophilus Esan Kolawole, Fedude Zimugha, Ernest Chikwendu Ikeji, Victor Esiri Akpoguma, Leslie Akujuobi Njemanze, Akintola Wilson Adewale, Preye Agedah, Omamuzo Erebe, Hannibal Egbe Uwaifo, Olumide Ekisola, George Ejie Ukaegbu, and Oromena Justice Ajakpovi, and 27 others.

While the shortlisted professors are John Alewo Agbonika, Osy Ezechukwunyere Nwebo, Nlerum Sunday Okogbule, Najeem Adeyemi Ijaiya, Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri, Akkaarren Samuel Shaakaa, Nathaniel Ahagbue Inegbedion, Collins Obioma Chijioke, Violet Aigbokhaevbo, Meshak Nnama Umenweke, and Augustine Robert Agom.

The rest are Osaretin George Izevbuwa, Chimajosephat Ubanyionwu, Ibrahim Abdulqadir Abikan and Ominiye Bukola Akinola

The statement invited the general public to comment on the integrity, reputation and competence of the above-listed applicants.

Every complaint must be accompanied with a verifying affidavit deposed to by the author before a superior court of record in Nigeria or before a Notary Public and must be in 20 copies, which must be received.

Twenty copies of such comments or complaints must be received at the office of the secretary, LPPC, not later than 4pm on Monday July 14, 2025.

It clarified that “for the avoidance of doubt, the publication of the names of the shortlisted applicants is not an indication of their success in the process.”
