Presidential candidate of the Labour Party Mr Peter Obi won a majority of the lawful votes cast in Delta State during last Saturday’s election.

Obi polled 341,866 votes to defeat his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 161,600 votes.

Candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu came third with 90,183 votes.

The state Collation Officer for the presidential election, Prof. Owuneri Abraham Georgewill announced the collated figures in Asaba.

Georgewill said Delta has 3,225,046 as the total number of registered voters, adding that 667,149 eligible voters were accredited.

He stated that 654,650 votes were cast at the final analysis, out of which 615,341 were valid while 39,309 votes were rejected.

According to the collated results, Obi won comfortably in 18 out of the 25 local government areas while the PDP won in the remaining seven.

Across the local governments won by the former governor of Anambra State, are chieftains of PDP and APC including governorship candidates of the parties for the March 11 election.

In Ughelli North where the Deputy Senate President and APC governorship candidate, Ovie Omo-Agege, Obi won.

The LP presidential candidate also defeated Sheriff Oborevwori, the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly and PDP governorship in his Okpe council.

Besides, former Minister of State for Education, Kenneth Gbagi, a former PDP bigwig and now governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP), was trounced in his Ughelli South locality.

Moreover, perpetual governorship candidate, Great Ogboru who is flying the flag of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the March 11 election was also mesmerized.

Other party chieftains across the state also had their fair share of the embarrassing defeat inflicted by the LP.
