The Ipakodo Lions Club, District 404 A1, Nigeria, Lions Club International, has given hope of safe delivery to pregnant women as it refurbished the labour room in Ipakodo Health Centre, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The club also donated fans and bed to the maternity ward in continuation of its development of the area and making the health centre more comfortable.
The club’s president, Tosin Akinwale-Oloshunde, who announced the donations, disclosed that visually impaired persons in the area had also received white canes.
District governor (DG) 404 A1, Nigeria, Anogwi Anyanwu, who led the club’s members to the launch of the project, implored members of the public to join the Lions Movement, stating that the humanitarian club aspires to attain a reach where there would be a Lion to meet every need in the world.
“In the service of humanity, the harvest is plenty but the labourers are few. We need more people to join the Lions Movement so we can serve more people in need,” he said.
On the project, Akinwale-Oloshunde said the decision to refurbish the health centre’s labour room was inspired by a visit to the healthcare facility.
“As Lion Club, every president has to do a core project by looking around the environment to see the needs that require urgent attention.
“I chose Ipakodo Health Centre among other projects done for this Lion’s year due to the state of its labour room and decided to make it a core project.
“We raised the funds and worked round the clock to make sure that the project became reality. Now patients, mothers and children can enjoy an enhanced facility and a better all-round environment,” she said.
The president pleaded with well-meaning Nigerians to invest in programmes that would promote the cause of humanity, and added that Lions Club understood its roles in society, and it would continue to give a helping hand to the needy.
“Kindness is free, let’s give it; it is only when we give that we get more; giving is living. If God has raised our standard of living, let’s raise the standard of our giving.
“Let all wealthy Nigerians come and join the Lions Club International to give back to society. It is a place to serve the needy wholeheartedly. There are so many needy people seeking our help, we should rise to help.
“Ours is a commitment to humanitarian services in our communities. We are passionate about the causes of the less privileged and the commoners in our communities,” she said.
Mrs. Tsuzom Funmilola Juliana, an official of the health centre, thanked the club for its gesture and sought more support from the organisation.
