Zamfara State Governor Dr Dauda Lawal has declared a state of emergency on all primary healthcare centres across the state. The announcement followed his unscheduled visits to three facilities to assess the quality of services provided.

The Ministry of Health’s Information Officer, Suleiman Isah, shared this in a statement. Governor Lawal visited Shagari Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), Dr Karima PHC, and Bungudu PHC. He expressed concern over poor infrastructure, insufficient staffing, and a lack of essential medical equipment.

“The condition of our primary healthcare centres is unacceptable. We are determined to transform these facilities into modern ones. We shall ensure that they are well reconstructed and well-equipped for efficient and effective services,” he said.

The renovation plans include structural repairs, new medical equipment, and adequate staffing. Plus, the governor aims to improve training and retention of healthcare workers. He stressed that revitalising these centres is crucial for accessible, quality healthcare, especially in rural areas.
