The management of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, (LASUTH) has commended the efforts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for their support and contribution to public health in the state.
Making the remarks on Wednesday at a free special medical outreach held in collaboration with the Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, (LCDA), Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo said Tinubu’s efforts and contribution towards the well-being of Lagosians is unprecedented.
While describing Tinubu as a visionary who has the interest of the common man at heart, the LASUTH boss recalled: “In 2001, even without any presidential ambition Tinubu created LASUTH that gave birth to the Jiigi Bola which brought about free eye treatment and recommended glasses for all challenged persons.”
Fabamwo said the 22 years old state teaching hospital has continued to grow with the help of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s massive investment in the health sector, especially with the approval for the establishment of the Cardiac Catheterisation Department, the only public teaching hospital with that facility in the entire country.
He said over 500 indigent people would be screened for various medical ailments including glaucoma and cataract, blood sugar, high blood pressure.
Fabamwo hinted that there would be aftercare service for patients, stressing that it is the philosophy of LASUTH to ensure everyone who comes for check receives full treatment.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Ojokoro LCDA, Hammed Idowu Daniel Tijani lauded the achievements of the hospital in the last 20 years, stressing that it would go a long
way in easing the health burden of the people of the area.
He said since the target programme is the treatment of those suffering from glaucoma and cataract through medical consultations, he was grateful that this is happening in the local government area.
The paramount ruler of Ojokoro Land, Ọba Rilwan Oluwalambe Taiwo said he was very grateful to LASUTH for bringing the programme to his domain, stressing that members of the community welcomed the opportunity to get free health checkup.
He said: “We appreciate LASUTH and indeed the local council. We wish to assure Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his entire team that we shall reciprocate their kind gestures by mobilising the community in his second term bid by casting our votes for him.”
One of the beneficiaries, Adewale Francis, a 65 year old retiree said he was happy to be a part of the medical outreach, especially the eye screening. Francis, who noted that he heard about the exercise from his church confirmed that a lot of people welcomed the timely intervention as it enabled the indigent members of the community to benefit from a programme capable of improving their health status.
