There was a large turn out of voters in Argungu and Augie towns in Argungu local government areas of Kebbi State, the strong hold of Senator Isa Galaudu, the state PDP governorship candidate.
Daily Sun, which monitored the exercise around the areas, observed that voters have converged at various polling units as early as 7:30am to exercise their franchise.
A voter, Abubakar Muhammad, expressed delight over the peaceful conduct of the election.
Senator Galaudu arrived at the polling unit with his wife Hajia Zainab Galaudu at about 8:50am, with voters queueing by gender.
Speaking with newsmen, Isa Galaudu said the exercise was peaceful across the state.
According to him, “Generally, the election is peaceful and people are eager to change hunger and poverty in the country. But we got information that there was a late arrival of voting materials in some places, but generally, the election is peaceful.”
He, however, noted that it was too earlier to commence on the INEC arrangement of allowing voters to be accredited and voting simultaneously.
The voting exercise that was expected to start by 8am is yet to commence in various areas of Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State.
When Daily Sun visited some of the polling units in Birnin Kebbi, INEC ad hoc staff were seen trying to sort out electoral materials.
At Baiti Limanchi, Garka Ladan Dan Musa, Magatakada -008, Shehu Salaka -004 and Labo Maijirigi under Marafa ward 1 and 2 at Tudun Wada area of the town, voters had queue up to vote for their candidates before the 8am official time, but they couldn’t do so due to the challenges of poor network reception of the card readers.
