The Ministry of Housing has recently received numerous reports of energy theft, neglect of shared facilities, non-payment of statutory dues, and other violations. These infractions are particularly concerning in estates such as Lateef Kayode Jakande Estate in Igando, where residents have been accused of bypassing installed electrical connections.

The Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, emphasized the government’s zero tolerance for such acts. He stated, “We will not accept situations where residents bypass and abandon existing infrastructure like water systems, electricity, and shared services, distorting the estate landscape.”

The Lagos State Government has provided necessary facilities for these estates, and their maintenance is the responsibility of residents, overseen by appointed facilities managers. Residents were reminded that communal living requires collective efforts to ensure the sustainability of estate facilities.
