A two-storey building under construction at Otta-Ona Junction in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State collapsed on Tuesday.
According to reports, the incident resulted in the death of one person, while nine others were rescued.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the building opposite Mobil Filling Station collapsed at approximately 2:00 p.m.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) responded by dispatching its personnel, including the Response Team and the Pre-Hospital Care Unit, as rescue operations commenced.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident, said, “Following a distress alert received at 2:02 p.m., LASEMA activated the State’s Emergency Response Plan with teams dispatched from Agbowa and Alausa.”
“Upon arrival at 2:40 p.m., it was discovered that a two-storey building under construction had collapsed, trapping three individuals beneath the debris. The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined.”
Speaking further, he added that while nine adult males were successfully rescued and treated by the agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit, one body was recovered from the rubble.
