The Zone 2 Police Command, Onkan, Lagos, comprising Lagos and Ogun states has begun a joint patrol on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to improve security in the area.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police incharge of the zone Commad, Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi, said the aim was to wipe out security on the route.
According to him,” I have given my blessings to the joint patrol. I have worked in Lagos for years and I know the area very well because Ogun and Lagos are twin brothers. Anything that happens in any of the states will affect the other. We are going to make sure that the stories about kidnapping on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is a thing of the past. I am going to do everything possible within my powers to wipe out kidnappings in the two states under my jurisdiction.”
However, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundeyin, also in a post he shared on his X handle @benHundeyin yesterday, said cases of kidnap incidents and other crimes had been reported on some parts of the expressway.
Hundeyin said that the joint patrols would cover Kara Bridge to Sagamu Interchange.
“As part of efforts to enhance security on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Police Command in Lagos State and its Ogun State counterpart have commenced joint patrols of Kara Bridge to Sagamu Interchange.
“The patrol teams from the Lagos command will comprise mainly the Rapid Response Squad (RRS),” he said.
Hundeyin appealed to motorists not to be scared at the heavy presence of police patrol on the road
“Motorists are, therefore, enjoined not to panic at the sight of increased police patrols, particularly the RRS
“This is a proactive measure to prevent crime and criminality on this stretch of the road, ” the image maker said.
