Members of organised labour on Wednesday joined other unions to protest against economic hardship in the country.
As early as 8 am, the protesters made of members of the Nigerian Labour Congress ((NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigerian Civil Service Union, had converged under the flyover at the Plateau State junction before matching to the state secretariat and the federal secretariat at Tudun Wada before returning to the cenotaph of the unknown soldier opposite the state secretariat where they’re addressed by the State Police Commissioner, Mr Bartholomew Onyeka.
Earlier during the match, s convoy of police vehicles had provided security to the protesters
Onyeka followed the protesters as they march along.
The police commissioner told the protesters that he was there to see things for himself.
He said that he was there personally to ensure that no worker was molested in the course of expressing themselves.
Tie commissioner said, “Remember it’s your right to protest, but what we are saying is that let it be peaceful so as not to disturb the fragile peace in the state because if there is any breakdown of law, everybody suffers the consequences.
The commissioner commended the TUC and NLC for the manner they had conducted themselves.
