Public schools in Kaduna metropolis Monday morning closed abruptly following indefinite strike embarked upon by the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and other affiliate organisations against minimum wage and electricity tariff increase by the federal government.

The Organised Labour has demanded for a minimum wage of N494,000.00 as against N60,000.00 proposed by the federal government.

Our Correspondent noted that students and pupils were seen returning back home as early as 7.30AM in playful and joyful mood.

All the Students and pupils from Government Day Secondary School and LEA Primary school, Narayi returned home following the closure of their schools.

Almost all of them were heard shouting in unison, “No school ooo, go back home, no school today”, apparently pointing at late comers to school.

This was even as their teachers were seen in group discussing about the strike.

“It is like this strike is very strong ooo, I thought it is going to be the usual threat of going on strike which the NLC will never go after holding meeting with the federal government without telling workers what transpired”. Our Correspondent overheard some of the teachers saying.

The Organised Labour said it has mobilised for full implementation of its indefinite nationwide strike over electricity tariff increase and new minimum wage for workers.

The NLC said a strike strategy meeting was held over the weekend to ensure that all affiliates and states were fully involved in the industrial action.
