Organized Labour, under the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), has picketed the headquarters of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC) in Kaduna to protest the recent hike in electricity tariffs for customers in Band ‘A’ categorization.
Led by Kaduna State NLC and TUC chairmen, Ayuba Magaji Suleiman and Alhassan Danfulani, respectively, the Labour members called for the immediate reversal of the tariff increase. They criticized the alleged segregation in the electricity sector through class differentiation in supply.
Furthermore, they demanded that the Federal Government reverse the privatization of the electricity distribution sub-sector, arguing that it has not benefited Nigerians and has instead allowed private companies to profit at the expense of underserved citizens.
