Skin bleaching has become a bane in our society. In the past, the norm was famous amongst women but these days you find out that both sex are culprit in skin bleaching

World Skin Health Day 2023 provided an apt opportunity for the Nigerian Association of Dermatologists and the Dermatology Society of Lagos, to organise a walk to Computer Village, Lagos, which was essentially aimed at drawing attention to the negative effects of skin bleaching.

The practice, which in the past was associated with famous women, has become rife as even both ladies from adolescent age group and men now indulge in it.

The walk which started at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) ended at the Computer Village where free consultation was given to the traders and La Roche Posay sample products were given to them according to their skin concerns.

Sponsored by La Roche Posay, the event was timely as the importance of skin health was taken to the popular market where many unsuspecting consumers have fallen victims to unsafe skincare products.

The activities commenced with a courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Professor Adetokunbo O Fabamwo, by the participating dermatologists from LASUTH and Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). They were accompanied by representatives of La Roche Posay in Nigeria led by Mrs Beatrice Eneh.

In his remarks, Prof Fabamwo noted that the skin is the mirror to the body and people need to be mindful of what they rub on their skin.

Also speaking, Mrs Beatrice Eneh said: “We are proud to partner with Nigerian dermatologists on this important initiative because you cannot speak about overall wellness and skincare in isolation”.

La Roche Posay is a foremost dermatologist-recommended brand in the world and it is officially present in Nigeria.
