The Kogi State government has provided details on recent security operations in Mopamuro, Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu, and Lokoja Local Government Areas. The operations, conducted by a combined team of security agencies, targeted criminal elements threatening the state’s peace.
Security forces engaged bandits in intense gunfire, disrupting their activities. “The camps of the bandits suffered heavy casualties,” the statement noted, commending the bravery of security personnel.
However, the government expressed sorrow over the loss of two operatives, stating, “We are deeply saddened to report that in the course of this operation, we lost two courageous operatives who paid the ultimate price in defense of our people and our state.” Condolences were extended to their families, with assurances that their sacrifices will be remembered.
The government also acknowledged injured operatives, ensuring they receive comprehensive medical care. “We also commend the resilience of other operatives who sustained injuries in the line of duty,” the statement said.
Normalcy has been restored in affected areas, with ongoing operations to eliminate remaining threats. “The Kogi State Government assures citizens that normalcy has been restored in the affected areas, and further operations are ongoing to ensure a total purge of criminal elements,” the statement affirmed.
Citizens were urged to remain calm, with security agencies adhering to rules protecting civilians.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo reaffirmed his commitment to safety. “The Chief Servant of the State, His Excellency Alh Ahmed Usman Ododo wishes to reaffirm his iron-cast commitment to the safety and security of every resident of Kogi State,” the statement read. He vowed zero tolerance for crime and continued collaboration with federal agencies and the National Security Adviser.
The government called for community cooperation, stating, “We call on all community leaders, stakeholders, and residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible intelligence.” It thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies for their support, noting, “We express our profound appreciation to our dear President, His Excellency Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for his special commitment to keeping Kogi and Nigeria safe.”
Finally, the statement highlighted Kogi’s growing investment appeal, asserting, “At a time that the global investing community is indicating interest in Kogi State, the Ododo Administration will spare no resource to win the war against criminality.” The fight against insecurity continues with public support.
