The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that 16 people died following an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on Taunga-Taura and Tungan-Ladan villages in Augie Local Government Area. The assault occurred on Sunday, April 6.
CSP Nafiu Abubakar, Police Public Relations Officer, detailed the incident in a statement issued on behalf of Commissioner of Police Mr. Bello M. Sani. “On 06/04/2025 at about 1800hrs, the suspected Lakurawa bandits in their large numbers with sophisticated weapons have invaded Tungan Taura and Tungan Ladan villages, all in Augie LGA, of Kebbi State, and rustled unspecified number of cows,” he said.
“As a result, sixteen (16) people lost their lives, when the suspects were confronted while trying to escape with the rustled cows,” Abubakar added.
He reported that upon receiving the news, CP Bello M. Sani condemned the attack and swiftly deployed additional tactical units—including police, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and vigilantes—to the affected areas. Their mission is to track and arrest the perpetrators.
“The CP equally reiterated the Command’s readiness in combating banditry activities and other heinous crimes in the State,” Abubakar stated. He confirmed that normalcy has been restored in the villages, and a thorough investigation is underway.
