The Kebbi State government has donated the sum of N50 million to the Timber Sellers’ Association as compensation to victims who lost property following a fire incident.
Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris, who made the announcement, also donated N10 million as his personal donation to the victims.
Idris, who stated this while inspecting the scene of the inferno in Birnin Kebbi, sympathised with the victims and urged them to accept the will of God Almighty in good faith.
He said, “On behalf of the State Government, we are donating the sum of N50 million to enable you to recoup part of your losses.”
He assured the timber merchants that the government was making necessary arrangements to assist the victims and enable them to recoup and continue their normal business.
“This administration under my watch will fully respond to assist those affected to restart business after a complete assessment of the tragedy,” he assured.
In his response, the Chairman of the Timber Sellers’ Association, Bello Dan-Sambo, thanked the governor for the visit while expressing immense gratitude to him for his magnanimity and kind gesture.
A total of nine timber merchants are the identified victims of the fire outbreak, with cumulative losses of about N191.7 million in timber and other accessories.
