The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission has fixed February 15, 2025, for Local Government councils elections.
The elections will be for chairmanship and councillorship positions, according to the Commission’s Chairman, Lawal Alhassan Faskari.
Briefing the press on Wednesday, he explained that the announcement is in compliance with Section 197 of the Constitution as amended and other relevant sections of the Electoral Act, to give clear 365 days notice for the polls.
According to him, “all interested and qualified candidates from the registered political parties in the state are free to contest posts of the chairmanship and councillorship after meeting all the requirements to contest as contained in the relevant guidelines.
“Only candidates sponsored by the registered political parties will be allowed to contest in the elections.
“We appeal to all security agents in the state to provide adequate security coverage throughout the process especially in the frontline Local Government Areas with security challenges.”
