Suspected terrorists on Wednesday reportedly ambushed and killed a Mobile Police officer in Safana Local Government, Katsina State.
A security source said that the deceased was among security personnel deployed to Zakka community in the area that was under attack by bandits.
According to the source, “some residents of the area were able to alert security operatives for help when the bandits attacked them.
“Many security operatives consisting of police, military and vigilance groups were dispatched to the area when the incident occurred.
“A Mobile Police personnel lost his life during the incident. Several of the bandits were located in an area in the community and the deceased officer ran into them as he was a newcomer and not familiar with the terrain.
“Sadly, they shot him in the left eye. We later picked him and wheeled him away from the area.
“The bandits were successfully repelled and eight of them were killed, while several of others sustained injuries in the process,” the source said.
Katsina Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO),DSP Sadiq Abubakar Aliyu, did not respond to enquiries when contacted over the incident.
