A Katsina Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday ordered that a 28 years old man be remanded in prison custody for allegedly raping the 11-year-old daughter of his neighbour.

The police said the accused, Suleiman Sabiu of Daddawa village, in Jibia Local Government Area of the state, committed the crime on July 29, 2017, which was reported to the police by the victim’s father, Murtala Ahmadu.

Police prosecutor, Sani Ado, told the court that the offence runs contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code law.

Senior Magistrate Abdulkareem Umar said the accused should remain in custody till October 3, 2017, when the case would come up for mention.

In a separate development, the court also ordered the remand of a 25-year-old herdsman, Kabir Sale, arrested for being in possession of a locally-made pistol and six rounds of live ammunition, an offence contrary to section 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms Act, LFN 2004.

The prosecution said the police arrested Kabir at Sabuwar Kasa, in Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State, on July 31, 2017.

In the First Information Report on the matter, the accused was said to have admitted being the owner of the gun, which, according to him, was to project his cattle from thieves.

The court ordered the accused to be kept in custody till October 4, 2017, when the case comes up for mention.
