The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), South East zone, has thrown its weight behind calls for political solution the lingering issue between the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
The group pledged support for any dialogue that would lead to the release of the self-determination agitator.
It, however, warned those who hide under Biafra agitation to perpetrate criminality in region to desist from the wanton destruction of life and property, which they said has heightened insecurity in the area.
The NYCN made the pledge shortly after the ratification of its new Vice President for the southeast zone, Comrade Henry Atigwe and the new Zonal Secretary/Organizing Secretary of NYCN South East, Egwuatu Samuel, in Enugu at the weekend.
The development followed the suspension and removal from office of the former Vice President and Organising Secretary of NYCN, in the zone.
In a communique read by the South East Board of Trustees (BoT) representative, Chief Herbert Aneke, the youths told the National President, Secretary, the Board of Trustees and the entire National Executive Committee of NYCN, “that we are committed to lasting peace and unity of Southeast in particular and Nigeria at large
“That we have resolved also to support the peace initiative of the Southeast Governors and the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu, as encapsulated in the Peace Initiative in Southeast. (PISE)
“That we support the renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, and urge him to take urgent steps in addressing the infrastructural deficit in Southeast in order to revive the economy of the zone.
“That we are in support of the political solutions being proffered for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kalu, and warned those who hide under the Biafra agitation to perpetrate criminality in Southeast to desist from the wanton destruction of lives and property, which has heightened insecurity in the zone.”
