The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Chapter, has endorsed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for a second term, praising his commitment to workers’ and retirees’ welfare.
State NLC Chairman Kabiru Inuwa announced the endorsement during the 2025 International Workers’ Day celebration at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Thursday, May 1.
Inuwa lauded Yusuf as the first Nigerian governor to implement the ₦71,000 minimum wage, calling it “bold and unprecedented” in easing workers’ burdens amid rising living costs. He stated, “These achievements are not just promises fulfilled but a reflection of the governor’s genuine concern for the labour force.”
The NLC also commended timely salary and pension payments, the clearance of a ₦16 billion retirement benefits backlog, and a pension increase from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000 monthly, per a statement by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Director-General of Media and Publicity, Kano State Government House.
The NLC noted teacher recruitment, staff promotions, and ongoing training as vital civil service reforms. Inuwa declared, “Governor Yusuf has earned the trust and support of workers across the state.”
