Kano/ Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Monday, handed over a total of 491,000 tablets of seized tramadol to the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The drugs, delivered to the agency at the Bompai headquarters of the Command, were recently intercepted along Birniwa/Gumel boarder axis of Jigawa State following intelligence report.
Speaking at the occassion, the Controller, Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Command, Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar disclosed that the drugs were concealed in a dark tinted SUV Lexus car and were being smuggled into the country in the middle of the night.
He regretted that the drugs were all labelled “For Export Only” meaning that they were not to be consumed in their country of origin.
He said that the drugs were targeted at innocent Nigerians, insisting that they were dangerous to the society.
He listed the consequences of these drugs on the system to include enhancing thuggery, violence, crimes including undermining national security by supporting and sponsoring terrorism.
Speaking also. the State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Kashim Idrisa Ibrahim appreciated the Nigeria Customs Service for the uncommon accomplishment.
“No human being will take this milligrams of drugs and remain the same. That is why they have reserved it for export only” he stated.
“There is no pont for us to thnk of taking the drugs for laboratory analysis because the drugs have already violated all the regulatory requirements of the land” he added.
He said the media will be invited for ghe destruction of the drugs.
