The Kano State government has set up a 10- member committee for the establishment of a Solid Minerals Development Directorate in the state.

Inaugurating the committee in his office, the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi explained that the initiative was aimed at diversifying and strengthening revenue base of the state.

He held that solid minerals had become a major source of economic prosperity and development globally while expressing optimism that the Directorate would bring about much needed resources and investments.

“We are hoping to use our advantages to set up a phase for generating revenue to better the lives of Kano people” he stated.

Bichi declared that the committee members were carefully selected from stakeholders who were versed in the knowledge of mineral resources and its development.

The committee has Aminu Abba Ibrahim, the Adviser to the State Governor on Solid Minerals, as Chairman and Yusuf Halilu of the Cabinet Office as the Secretary and is expected to submit reports within two weeks of the inauguration.
