The Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA), Wednesday demolished hundreds of stalls belonging to tradders at the Kano Main Id Ground (Masallachin Idi) along IBB Way in the merropolis

The demolition was effecred by heavy earth-moving equipment came amid protests by angry traders affected by the exercise.

The development came after the expiration of a 48-hour ultimatum issued to the petty traders by the authority, which had accused them of occupying the area illegally.

Daily Sun gathered almost all the stalls were removed from the site, revealing the four walls of the Id ground which had earlier been covered by the market stalls.

Many of the affected traders remained at the site during the demolition exercise, watching helplessly as their stalls were being demolished.

Some of them told newsmen that they had occupied the market area for 18 years and had no other place to relocate to.

The demolition exercise came just four days to the Id-el-Kabir celebrations when thousands of customers from within and outside the state are patronosing the markets for the upcoming Sallah festival.
