The judiciary disposed a total of 71,914 cases of 102,234 cases brought before it in Kano State last year, Kano State Chief Judge, Dije Abdu Aboki has said.
She made the remarks at the inauguration of the 2023/2024 Legal year/Valedictory session in honour of retired and deceased judges in the state.
According to her, at the moment, there are 30,320 pending cases in the state, among which were criminal and civil cases from the State High Court, Magistrates and Shari’a Courts.
She explained that the appeal section of the High Court translated 90 per cent of documents and records of proceedings received from litigants and Upper Shari’a Court.
She, however, observed that the relocation of courts in deplorable conditions to other sites contributed to the delay in the disposal of cases.
She commended the state governor, Abba Kabir-Yusuf, for giving his approval for the completion of the abandoned courts along Zaria Road and Zungeru Road in the metropolis.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, in his remarks, expressed his commitment to working with the judiciary for the effective administration of justice in the state.
He commended the Chief Judge, the Grand Khadi and all judicial officers for their tireless efforts while reaffirming his belief in the independence of the judiciary.
He urged the nine newly appointed judges in the state to be fair and just when sworn into office.
