In a disturbingly familiar occurrence, terrorists have killed six people in Ewehko, popularly known as Unguwar Paul, a village under Maro Ward in the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A credible local source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the village was attacked at approximately 2:14 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024. The attack resulted in the deaths of five men and one woman.
The source added that the attackers looted valuables, including farm produce and motorcycles, before setting them ablaze. They then retreated into the forest unchallenged.
Several communities under Maro Ward, including Junction Maro, Ungwan Rogo, and Ewehko, have recently suffered similar attacks, with no end in sight despite calls for drastic action from the federal and state governments.
“Another tragic incident has occurred in our community today. In broad daylight, terrorists launched a deadly assault on Ewehko,” the source lamented.
“As of the time of this report, the bodies of five men and one woman have been discovered, totalling six casualties. Search efforts are ongoing in the surrounding bushes for others who may still be missing.”
Expressing frustration over the recurring attacks, the source questioned the government’s commitment to protecting the people.
“How can these criminals be coming as they like to kill, maim, kidnap our people, and destroy their valuables without any one of them being arrested?”
“To us, both President Bola Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, and all the heads of the security agencies have abandoned us. If not, they should summon courage and stop this carnage now before it is too late,” the source warned.
Last month, the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Maro Ward, Hon. Ishaya Zangson Okan, was killed in the same area. Additionally, the fate of 12 people abducted from nearby Iri village in 2023 remains unknown. Their names are Ishaku Ayuba, Dogara Ayuba, Samaniya Donald, Azurfa Adauji, Monday Adauji, Agnes John, Abani John, Eunice Monday, Patience Adauji, Zakariya Adauji, Dorathy Adauji, and Donald Livinus.
As of the time of this report, the Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, was yet to respond to inquiries regarding the incident.
