…Urges Inspector General of Police to intervene

From Noah Ebije , Kaduna

One of the occupants of the Federal Government Quarters in Kaduna, Mary Mshelia has raised the alarm over the activities of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on Landed Property for forcefully carving out the land despite a court order restraining the committee.

Mshelia alleged that the officials of the PIC used men of the Nigerian Police to forcefully carried out the carve out which she described as illegal activities by top officials of the Committee.

However, the embattled occupant has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun to intervene and advise his men to obey the court order.

She alleged that policemen of the Kaduna Command in their numbers, who were fully armed forcefully gained entrance into her premises between 10:00am and 11:00am about fortnight ago.

She also alleged that the Court Orders, earlier obtained restraining further actions on the property were ignored by the police.

However, all efforts made by our reporter to reach the Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan on the matter did not succeed, as he failed to either respond to text message forwarded to him or respond to several calls.

According to Mshelia, “On their recent action, there was no any Court Order served on the occupants before the Police bulldozed their way into the premises, giving cover to some people who came to erect fence for a carve out on our landed property.

“I am pleading with the IGP to come to our aid and we are calling the attention of the presidency to the illegality going on the landed property”.

However, in a document obtained by our reporter, it shows that Mshelia had stayed in the said premises for 30 years as a civil servant with the Federal Government before it was leased to her by the Federal Government through the PIC.

Also, in another document obtained titled: ‘Implementation Committee Of The White Paper On The Commission Of Inquiry Into The Alienation Of Federal Government Landed Property’ shows that an offer of a leasehold interest in FG landed property in the state was granted to Mshelia.

Parts of the said document dated 12 December, 2022, which constitute the terms of an understanding between the occupant and the FGN in respect of the lease of the property reads; “You have been offered the Property by virtue of you having satisfied the FGN that you are an entitled civil servant/public officer in accordance with the published guidelines. As you are aware, the offer is not assignable, negotiable or transferable in any manner.

” Please note that, if it is found that you have accepted an offer on any other residential property from the FGN, this Offer will stand forfeited and all sums paid pursuant to this Offer will be forfeited.”

Mary Mshelia explained that all her documents were intact, just as she said that she had not in any way gone contrary to the terms of understanding between her and the PIC.

“I was surprised that the Commissioner of Police whom I had an interface with on the issue told me to cooperate or else the property will be revoked.

“On that same day, while I was with him in his office, his men were already in my house and bulldozed their way into the premises when nobody was in the house, and started shooting into the air.

“I am speaking on behalf of other affected occupants that the people in the authority should come to our aid and investigate the matter. I have been intimidated and harrassed.

“It is a great surprise that the Police who is ought to sparehead law enforcement, took up the prime centre to disobey Court Orders, duly served, but instead disregarded proceedings and supported illegality against innocent citizens”. Mshelia said.
