The Kaduna State Government has pledged to meet with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve issues prompting the indefinite strike at Kaduna State University (KASU).

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Alhaji Rabiu Yunusa, announced this at a press briefing in Kaduna, stating that the ministry and KASU management would engage ASUU to find common ground.

He noted that prior agreements with the ASUU were nearly approved before the strike began on April 24, 2025. He said: “The outstanding demands of ASUU, about ₦4 billion, predate this administration, but Governor Uba Sani promised to pay allowances in batches, given the state’s financial situation.”

He cautioned that the strike could undermine KASU’s progress under Governor Sani, who has facilitated accreditation for nine science courses with over ₦290 million for the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) requirements.

He added: “The Ministry of Education is grateful to Governor Sani for his commitment to education. The KASU ASUU chapter should know he keeps his promises.”

As a senator, Sani supported the construction of KASU’s Faculty of Engineering, the largest intervention for any state university, currently underway at the permanent site.
