As part of effort to keep Kaduna clean, Zoom Lion Global Alliance, a refuse evacuation company hired by Kaduna State Government, on Monday said it had intensified effort to evacuate refuse and clear drainage in major towns of the state.

The Managing Director of the company, Mrs Abiola Bashorun, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.

“We have intensified our operation to keep Kaduna clean and to rid the state of refuse and illegal dumpsites.

“However, despite our efforts, heaps of refuse have continued to appear in parts of Kaduna metropolis, Zaria and Kafanchan.

“Peoples’ attitude towards dumping of refuse in drainage did not change as most of the drains were blocked with refuse and sand.’’

Bashorun said the company had in the last two weeks evacuated refuse and clear drains in Afaka Mando, Makera, Kurmin Mashi, Gonin gora and Malali.

The Managing Director said the company had also cleared dumpsites at NDA Bus-stop, Kakuri, Kabala, Ungwar Dosa, Sabon Tasha, Tudun Wada, Barnawa, PZ in Zaria, Samaru and Kafanchan.

She said the company was evacuating more than 8000 tonnes of waste generated daily in Kaduna, Kafanchan and Zaria.

Malam Ahmed Salihu, the Director of Environment, State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, also told NAN that the company’s integrated waste management services would end the perennial flood confronting the state.

“We are making efforts to rid the state of illegal dumpsites, which has become a challenge to our environment.

“I assure you that with the ongoing Operation Keep Kaduna Clean, we will clear dumpsites in parts of the state soon.”

He urged residents to cooperate with the state government to minimise domestic waste generation and to dispose refuse at designated points.
