In what looks like a recurrent decimal, bandits terrorising Kajuru Local Government area of Kaduna State have killed another six people at Ewehko, popularly known as Unguwar Paul, a village under Maro Ward in the council.

An unofficial but credible source in the local council, who spoke in confidence for the fear of the unknown, said the village was attacked at about 2:14pm, on Monday, leaving five men and one woman dead. The source added that the attackers also gathered their victims’ valuables, including farm produce and motorcycles, and set them ablaze, unchallenged, before returning into the forest.

Several communities under Maro Ward, which include but not limited to Junction Maro, Ungwan Rogo, and Ewehko, have, in recent times, survived bloody attacks with no end in sight, except drastic action is taken by the federal and state governments.

“Another tragic incident has occurred in our community, today. In broad daylight, terrorists launched a deadly assault on Ewehko, popularly known as Unguwar Paul, a village under Maro Ward in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

“The attack happened at approximately 2:14pm 17/06/2024. They set up all their belongings on fire. As of the time of this report, the bodies of five men and one woman have been discovered totalling six casualties. Search efforts are ongoing in the surrounding bushes for others who may still be missing.

“How can these criminals come as they like to kill, maim, kidnap our people, and destroy their valuables without any one of them being arrested? To us, both President Bola Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, and all the heads of the security agencies have abandoned us. If not, they should summon courage and stop this carnage now before it is too late”, the source warned.

Further checks revealed that just last month (May), Ibrahim Gajere, the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Maro Ward and former Political Adviser to the Executive Chairman of Kajuru Local Government, Ishaya Zangson Okan, was killed in the same Maro.

Also, 12 people who were abducted at Iri village, very close to Maro in 2023, are yet to be freed by their abductors and their fate is unknown to their loved ones.

They are Ishaku Ayuba, Dogara Ayuba, Samaniya Donald, Azurfa Adauji, Monday Adauji, Agnes John, Abani John, Eunice Monday, Patience Adauji, Zakariya Adauji, Dorothy Adauji and Donald Livinus.

As of the time of filing this report, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, was yet to respond to inquiries sent to his mobile phone on this unfortunate development.
