Senator Uche Ekwunife, Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, has joined millions of Nigerians in commemorating Democracy Day 2024, while calling for deeper reflection, unity, and renewed commitment to democratic ideals and purposeful leadership.

In a statement on Wednesday marking the 25th anniversary of Nigeria’s return to civilian rule, Ekwunife paid tribute to the sacrifices made by citizens and leaders to sustain the country’s democratic journey.

“As our nation marks Democracy Day 2024, I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating the resilience of our democracy and the indomitable spirit of our people. Despite the many challenges we face, this day reminds us of how far we have come, and of the immense potential that lies ahead,” Ekwunife said.

Reflecting on her role as a public servant and stakeholder in both the political and economic spheres, Ekwunife expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future.

She pointed to recent reforms and ongoing constitutional amendments as signs that the country is making steady progress towards a more transparent, accountable, and inclusive democracy.

“Our ongoing constitutional review efforts and the steady reforms to our electoral laws are encouraging. They are proof that we are gradually building a system where every vote counts, and every citizen has a voice,” she added.

Ekwunife also used the occasion to empathise with the people of Anambra and Nigerians at large, acknowledging the widespread hardship many citizens are facing due to economic and social pressures. She, however, stressed the importance of resilience and collective responsibility in overcoming the country’s challenges.

“While it is true that our nation is passing through difficult times economically, socially, and politically, Democracy Day is a moment to reflect not only on our trials but also on our triumphs.

“I empathise deeply with the hardship many of our citizens are currently enduring, and I remain hopeful that through sincere leadership and collaborative effort, these challenges will be overcome,” she noted.

Referring to the upcoming gubernatorial election in Anambra State, Ekwunife urged citizens to vote wisely and choose leaders who are capable, compassionate, and committed to the people. She reiterated that the APC remains the most viable platform to deliver the transformational leadership the state urgently needs.

“Democracy gives us the power to choose our leaders. As we approach the November 8 election, I urge Anambrarians to take this responsibility seriously.

“Let us elect leaders with a proven track record, leaders who are genuinely committed to good governance, people-oriented policies, and sustainable development. The APC is prepared to offer that kind of leadership,” she stated.

Ekwunife further praised the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration in laying the groundwork for economic recovery and national development.

She said the Renewed Hope Agenda is already driving meaningful reforms at the federal level, and that Anambra, under APC leadership, will be well positioned to align with this national momentum.

“We are proud of the significant strides being made under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose administration is focused on revitalising our economy, investing in infrastructure, and empowering citizens.

“At the state level, our Agenda for Anambra is designed to complement this national vision and deliver progress for all,” she said.

Senator Ekwunife concluded her Democracy Day message with a call for unity, resilience, and faith in the democratic process. She encouraged all Nigerians, especially the people of Anambra State, to remain hopeful and engaged in building a better future.

“Adversity has never defined us; our resilience, faith, and unity always prevail. Together, through shared responsibility and unshaken optimism, we can build a better Anambra and a stronger Nigeria. May God’s grace continue to guide our path as we deepen our democratic ideals and pursue the promise of a better tomorrow,” she said.

She wished all Nigerians a peaceful and joyful Democracy Day celebration.
