The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has lampooned the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party over its disrespectful statement and attack on a former governor of the state, Sule Lamido.
Lamido, who is one of the founding members of the party, had cautioned the national leadership of the party and its NWC not to abdicate its responsibility over the crises between Rivers State Governor, Siminalaya Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
He said it is inconceivable that a political party will simply sit back and allow its fortunes taken over by a “rapacious scavenger,” the APC.
In its response, the party, through a statement by Debo Ologunagba, its National Publicity Secretary, accused Lamido of working for the APC, describing his comments as incautious and unguarded utterances. The party in Jigawa, in a statement which was signed by the secretary of the party in the state Isah Bello, lampooned the party’s national leaders over their statement against
“We have also followed with keen interest the developments that led to the opportunistic intervention of President Tinubu in the name of resolving the dispute. “It was on this note that our Leader, Dr. Sule Lamido, as a founding father of the party, after noticing the ambivalence of our NWC, decided to show his genuine and sincere concerns by drawing its attention for immediate action. “Rather than heed to his fatherly counsel, the NWC, through the National Publicity Secretary, decided to release a disrespectful press statement against our leader.
“Though understandably, the composition and chemistry of the NWC could be excused due to its lacuna in the historical formation of the PDP!
“The NWC members may wish to be reminded that some elders took a lot of risks, including going to prison for them to occupy the positions they are now enjoying. Inferring that our Dr Sule Lamido is working for APC is a joke taken too far! “The primary function or duty of the NWC is to serve, protect and promote the fortunes of our great party, not to offer means of livelihood. We urge the members of NWC to heed the counsel given by Dr Sule Lamido.”
