Elder Statesman, Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has condemned alleged harassment and intimidation of Ndigbo in other parts of the country, during the February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections.

Iwuanyanwu said the situation was unacceptable and that Ndigbo believes in a united Nigeria where everyone is free to exercise his faith without fear of molestation or intimidation .

“In the last three and half years Nigeria has been tragically divided and it is very unfortunate and we need a leader who will heal this tragic division .

“Now, Igbos in several parts of the country were not allowed to cast their votes for their choice candidates except for the preferred candidates of their host and, when they refused, were harassed or chased away!

“This situation is very  unacceptable  to us .

“We want a united Nigeria and Ndigbo believes in a united Nigeria, where every citizen can live in any part of the country his/ her choice without fear of molestation, intimidation and discrimination. A Nigeria where people are free to exercise their faith.”

He maintained that what the country needs is not a sectional leader but “one who would put the nation first and ensure that there is equity, justice and fairness  for all Nigerians and not those that had voted for him.”
