The media got a peek of the new movie, Isoken, on Tuesday April 4 thus setting the tone for what to expect when it finally hits the cinemas across the country in June.
Starring Nollywood heavyweights like Dakore Akande, Funke Akindele, Patrick Doyle, Tina Mba, Lydia Forson, Damilola Attoh and new entrant, Bolanle Olukanni among others, the film is financed by the Bank of Industry and distributed by Silverbird Film Distribution.
Written, produced and directed by Jadesola Osiberu, Isoken takes the audience on a romantic but hilarious journey, as it explores cultural expectations, racial stereotypes and bonds that unite families. It tells the story of a single girl who is under pressure to marry but takes her time, and when she eventually signs the dotted lines, finds peace and happiness despite the challenges of matrimony.
Speaking at the media unveil, Bank Of Industry’s Head of Creative Banking Group, Mrs. Cynthia Uche Nwuka, said: “At BOI, we are very passionate about working with young filmmakers and Jade Osiberu was the first of such, with BOI buying into her passion and commitment to story telling through film. We are happy with what we’ve seen today and equally proud to be affiliated with this project.”
Also speaking, executive producer of the movie and former Managing Director, Daily Times of Nigeria, Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, said: “The Nigerian film industry is growing and the growth is even more evident in the works put out by young filmmakers like Jade, who is passionate and has remained focused. So, it was important to give her all the necessary support, as she was fully committed to this project from inception, ensuring that she put her all into making this a reality.”
According to Osiberu, raising fund for Isoken wasn’t easy but her resume and the content value of the movie wowed the Bank of Industry (BOI), which decided to single-handedly bankroll its production.
