Two members of a notorious kidnapping gang that has been terrorising Kogi State have been arrested by the Inspector -General Of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
Their arrests was sequel to the Kidnapping of Alhaji Jibrin Idris ,an Islamic Scholar and Imam at Enabo Town Ankpa Local Government Area of the state.
The cleric was, however, release after payment of ransom.
After narrating his ordeals in the hands of the hoodlum, IGP Ibrahim Idris’s ordered the officer in charge of IRT, Acp Abba Kyari to go after the gang. Following the IGP’s directive, a massive manhunt was launched by IRT on the Kidnappers and after three months of unrelenting follow up, the Kidnappers who earlier escaped to Enugu State after collecting the ransom in February and Sensing that IRT was trailing them were arrested In Ayinba Town Kogi State and 9th Mile Enugu State respectively.
The suspects, Suleiman Isah, 24, a native of Ankpa and Musa Mohammed, 31, also from Ankpa.
The suspects as it was gathered confessed to the kidnapping of the Chief Imam of Enabo in Ankpa district.
A senior Police officer hinted that the suspects had confessed that they were four in the gang and gave the names of the remaining two gang members at large, as Bashir and Mangal.
The police officer said the phone used for the ransom negotiation by the kidnappers has been recovered.
The police officer said serious efforts to arrest the remaining two gang members at large are in Progress.
He said the have gang had terrorised rich families and men of God in kogi State had brought untold hardship on many families as they were collecting huge ransom from victims’ families. Some families according to him are still paying debts following the huge amount collected from them as they had to borrow from source. HE said:”That is why we are using everything at our disposal to go after the two gang members who are on the run.We must get them so as to prevent them from forming another gang”.
