The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has raised the alarm over what it called fake Identity cards been issued to members by scammers.

Spokesperson of the group, Emma Powerful in a statement on Friday said the group does not have ID cards and does not issue it to anybody.

He warned those behind the scam to stop or face the wrath of the group.

The statement reads in part: “For public record purposes, IPOB does not issue identity cards to members, and neither did the leadership authorise anyone to issue identity cards to anyone on her behalf. “The criminals impersonating IPOB and issuing fake IDs to people will face severe consequences. In the same vein, IPOB cautions the ignorant people paying and obtaining the fake identity cards that IPOB does not issue IDs to members.

“People should report those issuing the fake IPOB identity cards to IPOB inquiry lines. Anyone who falls victim to the fake IPOB ID card scammers are doing so to their own detriment.

“Biafrans who are genuinely interested in joining the IPOB family should do so through physical attendance at the IPOB family meeting within their areas and not by obtaining fake identity cards,” Powerful stated.              

The IPOB spokesman also listed names of those he claimed are behind the scam.
