The 60th president of Institution of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Davidson Alaribe, has said innovation, research and development of human resources of the institute are his top priorities.

During his investiture at the Institute’s secretariat in Lagos on Tuesday, Alaribe pledged to register ICAN’s presence in the African space to solidify its impact across the continent.

He promised to leverage on the precedence of past presidents to sustain and maximise existing relationships between institutions and prudent management of human and material resources to improved operations for members and the public.

“I wish to acknowledge the significant improvement achieved in the last presidential year on the issuance and renewal of the Institute’s practice license. We will sustain this and continue to improve the process for a better experience for our members. We will review the scale of professional fees and the code of conduct for members.

“The delegation agreement signed with the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) of Nigeria has further strengthened the relationship between our two institutions. We will continue to work with the FRC to facilitate effective financial reporting in Nigeria as it holds the ace for attracting Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in the country,” he said.

Alaribe added that under his leadership, ICAN would make its impact felt in Nigeria across strata of governance.

“We shall continue on advocacy and communication, improve our curriculum, and make it possible for our members and intending members to write their exams from anywhere in the world online.

“We shall ensure finance and management discipline, deepen our presence in government, and ensure our members are motivated. We shall leverage on our members in government cycle to influence government policies and programs.”

He implored members to send in suggestions on regular basis on how to move the institute forward, while his administration would strive to reposition District Societies for better performance.

“Our members are among those leaving the country. Some of them are even leaving the profession for other discipline and careers, but as noble profession, we shall strive to reinvigorate our profession and rekindle the love of accounting in the hearts of young people to bring them into the family,” he assured.
