The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated it has not resolved the ongoing leadership disputes within the Labour Party (LP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following recent Supreme Court judgments.
INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, through Chief Press Secretary Rotimi Oyekanmi, debunked media reports claiming the commission recognised specific individuals as LP’s National Chairman and National Secretary or reinstated PDP’s National Secretary.
INEC clarified that LP’s national officers listed on its website were uploaded due to a prior court order, unrelated to the Supreme Court’s latest ruling.
It stated: “The names of the National Officers of the LP had previously been uploaded to our website following a court order, not related in any way to the latest judgement of the Supreme Court. In the same manner, the name of the National Secretary of the PDP on the same website was neither deleted nor reinstated.”
As a law-abiding institution, INEC is studying the Supreme Court’s LP judgment and will announce its decision soon, urging the public to disregard false reports.
