Founder and sponsor of Akanchawa Education Foundation, Chief Chris Ejikeme Onwuzurike, has promised to increase the number of beneficiaries of the scholarship to students in tertiary institutions next year. He also promised to increase the amount payable to each awardee.
Onwuzurike, who spoke during the presentation of the 2023 beneficiaries of his scholarship programme in Abba, Nwangele local government area of Imo state last weekend, said the hard financial situation in the country had necessitated the need to take a look at the number of beneficiaries and amount of the award
The founder, who was represented by the Chairman of Board of Akanchawa Education Foundation, Prof Frank Ojiako, enjoined the students to make judicious use of the money.
He said, “I recognise that the economic situation in the country is taking a big toll on parents financing their children’s education and I want to assure you that I will not be in Abba and hear that any ABBA child who gained admission in any institution of higher learning in Nigeria is denied the opportunity because of school fees.”
He said that the award is renewable yearly dependibg on their behaviour and academic performance, adding that the board would monitor their attitude and performance. During the occasion, 10 students benefitted from the scheme and were given N100, 000 each.
One of the parents, Ohaegbu Nicholas, whose daughter Oluebube, was one of the beneficiaries, expressed profound gratitude for the extraordinary scholarship awarded to his daughter.
He said, “Your generosity and support have touched our hearts in ways that words alone cannot adequately convey.
Once again, thank you for your generosity and support. Your investment in Oluebube’s education is an investment in the future of our village and our society at large. We are deeply appreciative of your kindness, and we will forever hold your group in high regard.
One of the awardees, Ajuogu Mary Obianuju, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, promised that they wouldn’t disappoint their mentor.
She said that they would forever remain grateful, as the award will go a long way in assisting them in their financial needs in the school. His passion for helping the youth to attain the very height of their educational zenith.
