From George Onyejiuwa, Owerri

The Egbuoma community in the Oguta council area of Imo state has passionately appealed to Governor Hope Uzodinma to ease the suffering of the people by repairing the broken-down infrastructure especially as the community has been without electricity for nine years.

This is just as they appealed to the Imo state government to push for the commencement of activities at the Federal Technical College in Egbuoma by the next academic session.

The community commended Governor Uzodinma for awarding the reconstruction of the road from St Mary’s Anglican Church to Afor – Egbu Junction in the Egbuoma community.

The community made the plea when its leaders led by Mr Linus Chinyerenwa, the President-General of Egbuoma Progressive Union and other stakeholders paid a courtesy call on the State Commissioner for Niger Delta Affairs, Dr Henry Okafor.

The President-General of the community who commended Governor Uzodinma for his infrastructural revolution in the state pleaded with the governor to ease the suffering of the community by repairing the broken infrastructure in their community which is the largest community in the Local government.

He also called on the governor to urgently tackle the perennial flooding of the community as a result of the poor drainage system.

According to him, “We have a perennial drainage problem in the Egbuoma community, the road from A for Egbu junction to Obama needs a channel to take the water down to the Obama River when it rains. For nine years the community have been without electricity because of the dilapidated transformers, pillars and other electrical equipment.

“Continuing, our roads are in critical conditions such as Nkwoegbu to Ubokwum to Egbuoma Ossemotor road, the road from Ohakpu to Omadi to Umuoji village which was awarded to NDDC has been abandoned for six years by the contractor. Other roads that are impassable are Umunwachukwu/Umuolowo, Umuezike Egbu / Egbuoma Oguta road among others”.

He also pointed out that the two community health centres lacked the necessary manpower as well as the equipment.

“The two health centres in our community don’t have the required manpower and equipment to function optimally. Our community schools, Nkwoegbu Primary School, Central School Egbuoma and Ubokwum primary schools are dilapidated and need to be rehabilitated.”
