From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri
The people of Nkwerre in Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State have advised the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jones Onyereri, to withdraw from contesting the November 11 election in the interest of the revived Imo Charter of Equity.
Briefing newsmen at the weekend, Chairman of the Nkwerre Likeminds, Chief Sam Orji, said that their decision followed the unanimous agreement that Governor Hope Uzodimma who also hails from the same zone (Orlu) as Onyereri should be the sole candidate for the election from the area.Onyereri he contended is from Nkwerre, which he noted would not be healthy if he goes ahead to be Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s running mate, thereby pitching him against Uzodimma who he said the Orlu zone is throwing their weight behind.
“We implore our brother, Hon. Jones Onyereri, the Imo PDP deputy governorship candidate, to toe the line of reason and withdraw from that marriage and align with his brothers and sisters to support Governor Hope Uzodimma to complete his term.Meanwhile, the group, which is made up of Nkwerre indigenes resident in Owerri has endorsed Uzodimma for the election.
Orji explained that their resolve to adopt the incumbent governor’s re-election is hinged on his outstanding achievements.
He also noted that the strategic appointments offered to their brothers and sisters from Nkwerre Local Government Area, cut across the communities and wards.
