Emeka Eze is a fast rising actor. Aside his good looks  he’s an actor to watch for  greater exploits in Nollywood. In this interview with Daily Sun, he talked about his sojourn into the Nigeria movie industry and lots more.

Tell us a bit about your self? The movies you have featured in and narrate your journey into acting, who talked you into it?

I’m an Actor. A civil engineering graduate in the prestigious university of Nnamdi Azikiwe, awka.  By nature, I’m  an introvert who values personal space. Football and traveling as my hobby.  Have featured in worldclass movies with millions of views (treasure in the sky, Ken and Kate, when angel meet, when you love June). My journey into acting was unexpected and began in an unusual way. During my final year in school, I helped a young woman who was stranded late at night. She encouraged me to try acting, even though I was initially reluctant and preferred staying out of the spotlight.

How challenging was your role in the first movies you acted?

I started with small roles, and my first significant project was *Empty Kingdom*. My second role was in another film, though I can’t recall its exact name. In my early days, I was nervous and unsure, but I was cast as a fearful character, which, ironically, suited my anxious demeanor at the time.

Regarding my role in my first film, it was quite challenging. I was nervous about performing in front of others and worried whether I could act convincingly. However, I soon found comfort in the process and formed friendships with my colleagues, which helped me improve. I focused on delivering my performance to the best of my ability and was pleased with the result.

How would you describe your experience acting with Nollywood stars?

Acting alongside Nollywood stars has been an incredible experience. Initially, it was overwhelming and intimidating, as I struggled with confidence and often felt nervous. The idea of working with well-known actors was daunting, especially considering how I had only heard about them before entering the industry.

However, as I continued working on various productions, I realized that I had a lot to offer in this career. I dedicated myself to improving and giving my best performance. Now, I feel confident standing alongside any actor and delivering my lines effectively. While there may be some actors with whom I still need to build more comfort, overall, it’s been a rewarding journey.

Did you  sometimes experience any  culture shock or intimidation acting with veteran Nollywood stars ?

Initially, I did experience some discomfort when I first encountered Nollywood stars, especially observing their interactions with producers and their presence on set. It was a bit unsettling at first, but I quickly realized that I was there for a reason and had been chosen for the job. Despite any initial unease, I never felt truly intimidated. Instead, I focused on my role and embraced the opportunity to work with such talented individuals.

Tell us your parents/friends reaction as you inform them about being in Hollywood?

As an introvert, I tend to keep my personal decisions to myself and consult my own understanding and faith rather than seeking external validation. I usually present a calm demeanor, even though I often prefer solitude for decision-making.

When I began my acting career, I didn’t initially share the news with anyone. It was a surprise for my family when they saw me in a film. My mother, like many African parents, had mixed feelings. She was supportive but also concerned about my future, especially regarding marriage. She asked if acting would affect my plans, and I assured her that marriage is still part of my future.

One amusing incident occurred when I was about to travel for a role in Ebonyi State. My relatives were initially shocked by my decision to leave Anambra State, as they usually prefer to keep their children close. Despite their concerns, they eventually supported me and wished me well in my acting career.

What lessons you have learnt about life as an actor?

Through my time in Nollywood, I’ve encountered a diverse range of people, including those with various personalities and backgrounds. This experience has taught me several valuable lessons.

Firstly, I’ve learned the importance of humility. No matter who I meet or what I encounter, staying grounded is crucial. I’ve also realized the significance of believing in myself and trusting my instincts.

Nollywood can be challenging and unpredictable, so it’s essential to remain true to oneself and stay loyal to one’s values. Despite the difficulties, maintaining respect for those who have been in the industry longer is a key lesson. This respect, along with humility and self-belief, has been fundamental to my growth and success in this field.
