The United Eastern Region Congress (UERC) has commended the Igbo apex social cultural organisation, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo for its recent visit to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu in detention .
Leader of the group, Sam Ike in a statement on Sunday described the visit led its President General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu as a sign of unity of the people of Southeast in their interest and resolve to have Kanu regain his freedom .
“We want to commend our leader, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu for this great move of visiting Kanu in detention, this is the type of unity we talk about ,If all the ten old Eastern States could unite again, we won’t be talking about marginalisation.
“We want to also urge all the governor’s in the old Eastern Region to come together and discuss about Kanu’ s unconditional release because he has done no wrong,he should be released same way others that were charged same offence with him.
Ike whose group has kicked against secession said he believes if the Eastern States are treated fairly in the country demands for breakup will certainly be a thing of the past.
Giving an insight into aims of his group, Ike said “United Eastern Region Congress is not a political party or a networking business group but we welcome and encourages any of our registered daughters and sons from Eastern Region with political interest etc. We offer our prayers and support.”
“United Eastern Region Congress is a union that unites our brothers and sisters home and abroad to build an unbeatable togetherness amongst the old Eastern Region .
