The Igbo Actors Development Organisation (IGADO), an umbrella body of all the Igbo speaking actors and actresses in Nollywood has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu,

In a release signed by Obi Okoli, President and Okebaram Prince (PRO), the organisation said the arrest and detention of Kanu had caused serious insecurity in the South East region.

The organisation which said it represents the voices and concerns of all the Igbo speaking in Nollywood, is pleading for justice and fairness in the case of Kanu.

“The arrest and detention of Kanu who has been a vocal advocate for the restoration of Biafra has caused serious insecurity in Igbo communities and beyond.

IGADO in the statement expressed deep concern for the well-being of the IPOB leader, even as it pressed for his immediate release.

The organisation highlighted the fact that Kanu has been a peaceful activist, using his platform to advocate for the rights and freedom of the eastern-region people.

IGADO said it recognised the significant impact Kanu had had on his people. “His message of unity and self-determination has resonated with many, and his voice has become a symbol of hope for the Igbo people.

“With his arrest and detention, there is a sense of fear and injustice among the community.”

The organisation stressed the negative effects of Kanu’s detention on the Igbo film industry, adding that it was deeply saddened by the negative impact Kanu’s case was having on the industry.

“IGADO is appealing to the Nigerian government to release Nnamdi Kanu and focus on addressing the root causes of the agitation for Biafra rather than silencing those who are advocating for their people’s rights.”

The organisation said it was confident that Kanu’s release would bring peace and stability to the Igbo communities and the country as a whole.
