From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi
Kebbi State governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has promised that his administration will ensure adequate preparation for the 2024 Hajj exercise. He stated this when he received the report of the 2023 Kebbi State Hajj Committee at Government House, Birnin Kebbi. Idris vowed that his government would also carry out necessary reorganisation of Kebbi State Pilgrims Welfare Agency for effective and efficient performance.
The governor assured that the 2024 Hajj exercise would surpass previous exercises in organisational structure, comfortability and smoothness.
Idris promised that the government would study the report and make obligatory adjustments, such as tackling administrative problems and failure, as well as appointing people of integrity, who would serve pilgrims throughout the duration of the Hajj.
He said: “Pilgrims pay for services, while the government complements. We will make sure justice is done to pilgrims in Kebbi.”
The governor thanked leader of the government delegation and Amirul Hajj 2023, General Muhammad Magoro (retd) and other members of the team for doing a good job and capturing everything holistically in their report. Earlier, while presenting the report to the governor, Magoro said that the report encompassed the operations of the 2023 Hajj, including recommendations on how to improve future Hajj operations.
He advised the government to review the duties of the Pilgrims Agency through restructuring, while the government should appoint board members, prior to the commencement of the pilgrimage.
